The Story of Them (uncut original mono mix)

~ Recording by Them

Annotation

From Prof. Stoned’s Them sessionography:
"This track took shape when the band had run out of material to record and started improvising with Morrison creating the lyrics ad-lib. The mastertape box that was sent to the Netherlands in 1967 contained no information whatsoever but Billy Harrison identified this track as being recorded at Regent Sound during Spring 1965. Although initially not deemed suitable for release, it did see the light of day after the band had broken up on a UK single (MAJOR MINOR MM 513, Sept 1967) in response to the success of Van Morrison’s Brown Eyed Girl. To fit the 7” format, the original master was chopped in two parts, with the ending of the song tacked on at the end of Part 1 to give it a smoother ending. Because of this, 31 seconds are repeated, making the track clock at 7:36. This was never corrected on any reissue, until now: the song appears here in its original length (7:05)."
