Motorcade of Generosity

All the elements of the CAKE sound are already present on this debut album: John McCrea's deadpan vocals, angular funk-inspired guitar riffs, trumpet accents. "Rock & Roll Lifestyle" is a highlight featuring the spoken-word vocals that McCrea would also return to. The whole album doesn't quite gel, though, the way that subsequent albums do. If this were my first exposure to CAKE, it'd be impressive, but coming to it after "Fashion Nugget" and "Prolonging the Magic" it just seems a suggestion of things to come.
