Seth Lewis’s Take a Look Around is a toe-tapping tribute to the American funk pioneers, The Meters. Rather than simply recreating a familiar formula, the album dives deep into the breadth of The Meters’ musical legacy, inviting listeners to walk away with a renewed appreciation for the depth, range, and vitality of their sound.

An all-star lineup from Denver’s jazz and contemporary music scene brings this material to life: Braxton Kahn on drums, Dave Devine on guitar, Tom Amend on piano and organ, Aleik Maddox on vocals, and Seth Lewis leading on electric bass. Together, the ensemble captures the feeling of musicians in active conversation—where driving rhythms meet the softness of ballads, and spontaneous instrumental interplay is balanced by the structure of strong songwriting.

Recorded in high-resolution DSD by Octave Records, Take a Look Around preserves the full dynamic range of a live performance, with the source kept largely untouched. The result is an album that places the listener right in the room. Audiophiles, funk devotees, and music lovers alike can revel in the unified drive, feel, and clarity of a band playing with purpose—no distractions, no ego, just the motion of good music.

Available on SACD and digital download.
