Gal Lazer (Rough Mix)

This month I'm sharing a rough mix from an album I'm putting together with Gal Lazer, who played drums in my band during a very crazy and productive time between 2014 and 2016. In that short timespan we played 300 shows and did endless recording sessions around the world which resulted in my first two solo records - Director (2015) and Universalists (2018).

In the van we would often listen to jazz - the Coltranes, Pharaoh, Archie Shepp, Miles, Mingus, Eric Dolphy. We would talk about doing a drum album in the tradition of Max Roach and Ginger Baker's Stratavarious that's really focused on drums, which will be too loud and too busy. Perfect for Gal. On saxophone is Abate Berihun, an incredible 60 year old Jewish Ethiopian saxophone player and an unreal partner for Gal on this new project.
