Anywhere But Here (4-Track Demos)
~ Release by The Ataris (see all versions of this release, 1 available)
Annotation
I went to see The Queers at Bogart's in Cincinnati on Friday, Sept. 13th 1996. I used to give my demo to every band I would go see in hopes that they could maybe help me find a drummer.
Drummers were hard to come by in Indiana.
The Vandals and Mr. T Experience were opening.
My friend Jasin suggested I give one to The Vandals.
Their Roadie Fitz passed it along to Joe and Warren who reached out to me and said they wanted to put out my record.
I initially thought it was a prank. But after I realized they were serious I explained to them that this demo was only me and my drum machine and that I was mostly looking for a drummer.
I said something along the lines of "If you can help me find a drummer I would love to come out to California and record.
And with that bit of happenstance The Ataris as you know it were born.
This is that very demo tape.
Please mind the quality, this is literally ripped from a second or third generation copy I had.
Recorded in the early half of the 1990's on a Fostex X-18 4-Track recorder.
Most recorded in my bedroom in Anderson, Indiana.
(Not the bedroom in that mislabeled awful Youtube video someone uploaded. That was actually Jasin's apartment. That was much later)
