The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) (limited edition, internet limited edition)

~ Release by Howard Shore (see all versions of this release, 15 available)

Annotation

"For the ultimate Lord Of The Rings collector," this version was only available online at the official "The Lord Of The Rings Soundtrack web site" and there were "only a limited number of copies available." How limited is not stated, however the German www.herr-der-ringe-film.de site claims the run was only 5,000. It also states that orders were limited to the U.S. until the end of January 2003.

"The Internet Limited Edition enhanced-CD features deluxe leatherette packing, custom belly-band artwork, and comes with a 20-page CD booklet." It also included the full set of five printed collectable character cards (only available individually as one of a set of five in the standard CD edition).

Like the "blue" Limited Edition, this "brown" leatherette packaged edition includes the bonus track, "Farewell to Lorien," featuring Hilary Summers (from the special extended version of The Fellowship of the Ring), so from a listener's standpoint, they are identical.

Other visual attributes that differ from the "blue" limited edition:
The CD label graphics feature a vine and leaf motif instead of the elven script.
The "belly-band" paper wrap use colors more complimentary to the brown leatherette and displays a close up of Gollum's eyes on the reverse.

This internet-only edition promised access to exclusive, enhanced content that included:
- Printable maps of Middle-earth and of Rohan & Gondor
- The Two Towers print & color set
- Two online trading cards

Plus, these other special enhancements:
- The Two Towers Movie Trailer
- The Two Towers image gallery
- Lyrics & Poems
- Score music video and Making of the Score video
- Screensavers, buddy icons & more

The menu is accessible via the Start.exe file on the disc (or may automatically run on some PCs), launching a Flash 5.0 interface featuring the Gollum eyes "belly-band" art, menu, rotating ring script graphics & music.

However, even though the readme.txt file states, "This Enhanced CD contains wallpaper and an exclusive link to the "Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers Soundtrack" bonus content site," apparently all of the content was meant to be downloaded from an exclusive Reprise web site. Every menu and ring script option opens a browser headed for the "edition check" site and there is no sign of wallpaper files within the CDs directory.
