Zig Zag Wanderer: The Best of the Buddah Years

~ Release by Captain Beefheart (see all versions of this release, 1 available)

Annotation

Recorded from 1967 to 1968.
This is a collection of songs, prior to TROUT MASK REPLICA, some of which were recorded by Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band during the band's relatively short tenure at Buddah in 1966 and '67. It is comprised of two-thirds of SAFE AS MILK, a couple songs from MIRROR MAN, and four from the I MAY BE HUNGRY BUT I SURE AIN'T WEIRD collection (a later collection with alternate versions and song which surfaced on STRICTLY PERSONAL).

Tracks 1-8 ℗ 1967 BMG Direct Marketing Inc
Tracks 9-10 ℗ 1971 BMG Direct Marketing Inc
Tracks 11-14 ℗ 1992 BMG Direct Marketing Inc

Track 1 is incorrectly titled and is "Sure 'Nuff 'N' Yes I Do"
Track 7 is incorrectly titled and is "Abba Zaba"
(Both from "Safe As Milk"). Despite the subtitle and claims of this issue, the cover image is that of Beefheart in the later Trout Mask Replica era and the last 6 tracks were never recorded on Buddah. That company took action against the band when they left the label after making 'Safe As Milk'. BMG acquired back catalogs subsequent to Buddah's demise in the late '70s.
