Annotation

This expanded 2021 reissue of American Babylon contains the album’s original selections (disc 1 tracks 01–12), bonus demo recordings of some of the songs (disc 1 tracks 13–15), and live tracks (disc 2).

Bruce Springsteen guests on 8 of the album’s tracks: CHAIN SMOKIN’ (guitars, keyboard, percussion), NEVER BE ENOUGH TIME (guitar), HOMESTEAD (guitar, harmonica, mandolin), DARK AND BLOODY GROUND (guitars, harmony vocals), LABOR OF LOVE (guitars, mandolin), WHAT DID YOU DO IN THE WAR (guitar), BILLY’S WALTZ (mandolin), and ONLY LOVERS LEFT ALIVE (guitar). Two of the tracks are co‐written by Springsteen and Grushecky: HOMESTEAD and DARK AND BLOODY GROUND. Bruce Springsteen produced all the album except the title track.

Bruce Springsteen also guests all 3 demo tracks: CHAIN SMOKIN’ (backing vocals and likely guitars, keyboard, percussion), NEVER BE ENOUGH TIME (backing vocals and likely guitar), and ONLY LOVERS LEFT ALIVE (likely guitar).

Bruce Springsteen also guests on 10 of the live tracks, playing guitar and sharing vocals on WHAT DID YOU DO IN THE WAR, CHAIN SMOKIN’, LABOR OF LOVE, NEVER BE ENOUGH TIME, DARK AND BLOODY GROUND, PUMPING IRON, HOMESTEAD, AMERICAN BABYLON, LIGHT OF DAY, and DOWN THE ROAD APIECE.
