First recorded on Joe Cuba's Steppin' Out with José "Cheo" Feliciano on vocals. The album credits most songs to Cheo, but not this one, so he's probably not the (sole) composer. Fruko's cover credits José Feliciano, most likely meaning Cheo.
Perhaps lack of claim of authorship is due to the reuse of the chorus from Caramelo santo.
